We all understand that mobile performance is important, but how important it is? Does the user care more about fast page load time or smooth scrolling experience? Is it better to have consistent mediocre performance, or good performance on average with large variance? How bad are page load errors? To answer such questions, we conducted a set of experiments targeting at a small percentage of Facebook mobile users and introduced artificial regression in one of the several aspects, including page load time, scroll delay, and reliability. We carefully monitored how user engagement was affected and whether the engagement change can be restored after the regression is gone. This talk will share our findings.
