In this session we will discuss how Salesforce.com has addressed the challenges of measuring mobile performance, getting our backend applications to scale due to increased traffic from mobile clients, and monitoring the performance of our software services. We will be show a demonstration of a new Mobile performance measuring tool we developed called Paparazzi which can immediately be put to use on your own sites. In addition, we will show a monitoring and triage tool called Lighthouse using open source tools that can be assembled in 90 minutes. Our presenters will also be sharing tips and tricks we’ve learned in scaling backend applications.

Charlie Hunt

Charlie Hunt is the Architect of Performance Engineering at Salesforce.com and the lead author of the popular book, Java Performance. At Salesforce.com, Charlie is responsible for improving the performance of Salesforce.com’s infrastructure, mobile and UI along with the evolution of internal performance tools. Previously, Charlie was the JVM Performance Architect at Oracle where he was responsible for improving the performance of the Java HotSpot VM and Java SE class libraries. He wrote his first Java application in 1998 and joined Sun Microsystems, Inc. in 1999 as a Senior Java Architect. He has been working on improving the performance of Java and Java applications ever since. He is a regular speaker on the subject of Java performance at many world-wide conferences including the JavaOne Conference.

Venkatesh Katari is a Mobile performance engineer at salesforce.com . Venkatesh has been building tools on iOS and Android to measure the front end performance on the mobile stack. He believes that the mobile performance measurement tools have to be on par with web browser based tools as of yesterday, and has been devoting his time to make mobile performance a better experience.

Kiran is an engineer on the UI Performance Engineering team @ Salesforce.com. He has worked on web performance issues in various roles for almost 5 years. During his time at SFDC, he has been instrumental in evangelizing, defining and driving web performance initiatives for several enterprise cloud applications.
