Much of the FOSS stack used for running webapps e.g., memcached, mysql, rails, has scalability limitations that are masked by the widespread adoption of horizontal scaleout. But as traffic growth forces the need for cheaper multicore servers, multithreading scalability becomes a real gotcha.
