Velocity 2008 Call for Participation

Call closed 11:59pm 05/05/2008 PDT.

• Are you the person who gets paged when your company’s site is slow or has gone down?
• Do you know how to improve performance and resiliency?
• Are you building infrastructure that scales?
• Have you been slashdotted, dugg, or techcrunched… and lived to tell the tale?
• Are you N+1 on “Operations Secret Sauce”?

If so, we want your proposals to lead conference sessions at Velocity 2008. The submission deadline for all proposals is midnight January 3, 2008.

When submitting a proposal, please:

1. Be authentic! Your peers need real-world scenarios they can use. Please submit original session ideas that focus on hands-on instruction and engaging and relevant examples.
2. Be descriptive! Include as much detail about the planned presentation as possible. The more we know about what you plan to present, the better.
3. Be specific! Proposals which are vague or cover too much material are unlikely to be accepted. If you think your proposal covers too much of a topic, consider submitting two proposals which split the material into different sessions.

Although no topic is off limits, here are some we’re interested in:

• Scaling experiences – good and bad
• CDNs – Getting content closer to the customer
• Networking, DNS, and load balancing
• Managing web services and architectures
• Making RIAs that are fast!
• Maximizing database performance and efficiency
• Optimizing code
• Capacity planning and load testing
• Configuration management
• Monitoring and Instrumentation
• Incident Management and business continuity planning
• Virtualization in production
• Policy / Process / Compliance

We welcome proposals for sessions for a medium-to-advanced audience. Consider submitting multiple proposals for varied skill-levels, and please indicate the experience and knowledge level of the audience that you are targeting: intermediate or expert.

Important Dates

The submission deadline for all proposals is January 3, 2008.
Early registration opens in March 2008.
Standard registration begins May 2008.
