Agenda/Schedule | Program Chair
Velocity, the web performance and operations conference from O'Reilly Media, is the premier technical event dedicated to optimizing every aspect of your company's website. It's the convergence of performance and site reliability experts and innovators who share the information critical to building and scaling fast and reliable websites and services. Velocity online and in-person conferences give you the most current tools and case studies to meet the demands of this ever-changing landscape.
At this half-day Velocity Online Conference, we’ll be joined by some of the foremost leaders in the mobile performance community, sharing the latest technologies that are making the mobile browsing experience a better one for the end user. You'll have the opportunity to share your ideas, ask questions, and join in a conversation with panelists and other participants, all looking to build a solid and profitable future for web performance technologies.
Velocity chair Steve Souders will set the stage for this online event, offering a quick overview of what’s happening in the mobile performance ecosystem, and introducing our speakers.
Many companies with high traffic web sites never know when or where the next burst will come from, or how big it will be. Regardless of whether there are 50 people on the site or 50,000, they must maintain superior application performance or risk losing users. In this kind of environment, having the ability to baseline application performance, to understand what normal is and to be prepared for deviations from it, is more important than ever. In fact, it could mean the difference between scaling and failing. In this session, New Relic VP of Engineering Bjorn Freeman-Benson will demonstrate how real-time application monitoring can provide the visibility needed to:
Testing is not enough for the realities of modern Javascript application development. For 3rd-party Javascript providers (like us here at Olark), the Internet is often a hostile mix of browsers, doctypes, strange cookie behaviors, and poorly sandboxed libraries. The number of “real world” testing environments quickly gets out of hand.
Monitoring has become key to ensuring Olark works great across 3M+ visits on thousands of different websites every day.
In this talk, we will run through:
SPDY and HTTP/2.0 – lessons from SPDY to be considered for a next generation web protocol.
This session will show all you can do with Mobitest, a mobile web performance recently open-sourced by Akamai. We’ll show how Mobitest works, how you can get it working on your phone, and how to connect it with your private webpagetest instance. We’ll also give an update on the hosted version of Mobitest, which is still going strong. Lastly, we’ll talk a bit about open-sourcing in general, and what does that mean for Mobitest specifically.
We’ll close with a look at what’s coming up with Velocity in 2012 and recap the mobile performance tools discussed at this online conference.
Program subject to change. The entire conference will be recorded and made available to attendees free of charge afterwards.
